Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 21 Oct 1992

Vol. 134 No. 4

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Neville that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Social Welfare to ensure that people employed on a part-time basis, on one, two or three days per week, receive a reasonable level of unemployment assistance.

I also received notice from Senator Haughey of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Energy to report further on the operation of the Sellafield Nuclear Reprocessing Plant following a further leak in September 1992 causing the temporary closure of the plant; and following an application by BNFL to obtain appropriate radioactive and chemical effluent discharge authorisations for THORP.

I also received notice from Senator O'Reilly of the following matter:

The urgent need for the Minister for Education to reconsider the appointment of a teacher to St. Michael's junior school, Cootehill, County Cavan.

I also received notice from Senator D. Kiely of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Industry and Commerce to investigate the manner in which music users are disadvantaged by copyright organisations.

I also received notice from Senator Ryan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to ensure that participation by unemployed people in the vocational training and opportunities scheme remains entirely voluntary.

I also received notice from Senator Costello of the following matter:

The delay in starting work on the reconstruction of the Central Model School, Marlborough Street, and the need for the Minister for Education to ensure that the work begins in 1992.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Neville, Haughey, O'Reilly, Kiely, Ryan and Costello as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senators Neville's and Haughey's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators O'Reilly, Kiely, Ryan and Costello may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
