Vol. 136 No. 15

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Cotter that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to ensure that certificate examination papers are proof read with due care to ensure that they are free from error.

With special interest from the Cathaoirleach.

He is rewarded for consistency. I also received notice from Senator O'Toole of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Enterprise and Employment to ensure that the Government vigorously opposes any attempts within the European Community to impose any additional duty, tax or charge on blank tapes, digital audio tapes, blank compact discs or recording equipment as is being sought by elements within the European music industry.

I also received notice from Senator Ross of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Enterprise and Employment to carry out an immediate investigation into the life-threatening explosion at Balleece Quarry in Rathdrum, County Wicklow and to suspend its operation until appropriate safety measures have been put in place.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Cotter, O'Toole and Ross as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senators Cotter's and O'Toole's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Ross may give notice on another day of the matter he wishes to raise.
