Vol. 140 No. 18

Dún Laoghaire Harbour Bill, 1994: Committee and Final Stages.

Section 1 agreed to.
SECTION 2.
Question proposed: "That section 2 stand part of the Bill."

Naturally, I welcome any developments in this country which will help traffic across the Irish Sea. The Minister said that I was entirely negative, although I am sure he did not hear the beginning of my speech. I was not negative because the very first thing I said was that any development which would assist in making traffic across the Irish Sea quicker and more comfortable has to be welcomed. I then went on to express my reservations regarding this development. I would not like the Minister to think that I am an entirely negative person, but in this situation it was as well that someone should put forward the points made regarding this development by a number of residents who, as the Minister knows, have great reservations. The fact that five round trips will be available would not be considered an advantage by people living near the ferry who already have to cope with the effects of four round trips per day.

I am not making any complaint against Senator Henry. She has a point of view and so be it. I do not necessarily share her point of view but I have no complaint to make against it. I would like to assure you of that. I would like to apologise if I was discourteous in my response to Senator Henry.

No, he was not. It is just that I felt the Minister did not hear me say at the beginning of my contribution that, naturally, anyone would welcome a shortening of the trip across the Irish Sea.
