Seanad Éireann debate -
Thursday, 30 May 1996

Vol. 147 No. 11

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Roche that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to make a statement on the failure of her Department to properly process a series of complaints lodged by the parents of children attending a school (details supplied) under the aegis of Bray vocational education committee.

I also received notice from Senator Cosgrave of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Enterprise and Employment to outline his attitude to the recent Consumers' Association of Ireland survey into the country's 13 big mortgage lenders.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. I call the Leader of the House.

Before the Order of Business, I wish to clear up a matter. A Member of the House stated yesterday that during the Order of Business I made a statement which was not factual.

I called the Leader of the House. We will deal with the Order of Business and if the Senator has something he wishes to sort out at that stage——

I am asking for the Cathaoirleach's assistance. On a point of order——

I will take a point of order after the Order of Business.

It was total misinformation.

I called the Leader of the House and I ask Senator McGowan to resume his seat.

On a point of order, I do not disrupt the House and I asked for the Cathaoirleach's assistance on this matter.

I will deal with it after the Order of Business. I ask the Senator to resume his seat.

I was accused——

I ask the Senator to resume his seat.

I accept the Chair's ruling.

The Senator should have listened to "Morning Ireland" this morning.

I listened to it.

The Senator has another thing coming.
