Seanad Éireann debate -
Thursday, 7 Nov 1996

Vol. 149 No. 5

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Sherlock that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry to rectify the anomaly under EU regulations which precludes farmers growing peas for green harvesting from area aid, resulting in the loss of 50 jobs at Universal Dehydrates Limited, Middleton, County Cork.

I have also received notice from Senator Quinn of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice to create a mounted police unit for Dublin as a publicly acceptable and cost effective way of upgrading the Garda presence in Dublin city centre and at major events.

I have also received notice from Senator Taylor-Quinn of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to provide a new classroom, toilet block and ancillary classroom accommodation at Kilmurry national school, Ennis, County Clare, and if she is aware of need to have the finance for this project included in the capital building programme.

I have also received notice from Senator Daly of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry to investigate the increase in brucellosis in Crusheen, County Clare and if he will advise on the steps he will take to deal with this serious situation.

I have also received notice from Senator Farrelly of the following matter:

To ask the Minister for Education if funding will be made available this year to ensure that the extension to St. Oliver Plunkett's School, Oldcastle, County Meath, can go ahead.

I have also received notice from Senator Reynolds of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to provide funding in 1996 or 1997 for the first phase development of a residential hospice service for the North West Hospice.

I have also received notice from Senator Kelly of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry to outline the reason so few agricultural projects are being funded under the Leader II programme.

I regard the matters raised as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Sherlock's and Senator Quinn's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. The other Senators may give notice of the matters they wish to raise on another day.
