Vol. 149 No. 13

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Rory Kiely that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry to guarantee that beef prices will be maintained or improved in the spring of 1997, thereby ensuring that farmers who winter fatten cattle will not be disadvantaged financially.

I have also received notice from Senator Reynolds of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to provide £2.6 million in the capital programme for the provision of a library and administration building at Sligo regional technical college.

I have also received notice from Senator Calnan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to ensure that the remedial works for which he has already provided money will get under way in order to prevent flooding of houses, business premises, private property and roads in the Long Bridge, Dunmanway area, County Cork.

I have also received notice from Senator Finneran of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to provide the necessary funding to the Irish Wheelchair Association for its proposed national respite and holiday centre at Donamon, County Roscommon.

I have also received notice from Senator Daly of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to make a decision regarding the provision of a formal personal assistant service to enable people with disabilities to live independently; and if he will establish an independent living fund.

I have also received notice from Senator Hayes of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice to respond to a request from Clondalkin Chamber of Commerce concerning the need for the CCTV surveillance system to be constructed in Clondalkin village and that it be given priority in terms of her Department's budget and spending allocations for 1997.

I have also received notice from Senator Enright of the following matter:

To ask the Minister for Justice if she is aware of the conditions at Tullamore Garda station, particularly in regard to fire safety at the station, and in view of the increased number of personnel employed at the station if she will ensure that major improvement works are immediately carried out.

I have also received notice from Senator Burke of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to make finance available for the upgrading of Castlebar swimming pool.

I have also received notice from Senator Kelleher of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications to make a statement on the present status of the CIE site at Horgans Quay, Cork; and if there has been any interest shown by people in purchasing and developing it.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Kiely's and Senator Reynolds' matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
