Vol. 149 No. 21

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Sherlock that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to give urgent consideration to have the plans for a new vocational education committee school at Summerhill, Mallow, expedited.

I have also received notice from Senator Quinn of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry to immediately rescind his decision to suppress prompt publication of new outbreaks of BSE, in view of the damage this decision is causing to the international credibility of the Irish beef industry.

I have also received notice from Senator Honan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications to immediately address the unconfirmed reports that the Laois-Offaly area could lose the Europeat plant whose development has the potential to bring 500 permanent jobs to the area.

I have also received notice from Senator Finneran of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry to have the Suck Valley catchment area included in the new EU category of extremely disadvantaged areas.

I have also received notice from Senator Maloney of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to provide funding for a new fire station in Buncrana, County Donegal.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senators Sherlock's and Quinn's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
