Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 9 Apr 1997

Vol. 150 No. 15

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Mooney that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht to provide a jetty at Hollymount Shore and Spencer Harbour, Lough Allen, County Leitrim, as the existing floating jetties prevent cruiser traffic from accessing onshore services, denying the local community an opportunity of sharing in the economic benefits which have resulted from the reopening of the Lough Allen Canal.

I have also received notice from Senator Hayes of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to consider granting the post of resource teacher to St. Joseph's boys school, Clondalkin.

I have also received notice from Senator Finneran of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to intervene in the fees and charges dispute appertaining to University College Dublin.

I have also received notice from Senator Manning of the following matter:

The refusal of the Minister for Education to recognise, for incremental purposes, the teaching years of B.Ed. national school teachers at St. Michael's junior school, Ailesbury Road, Dublin 4.

I have also received notice from Senator Daly of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to make a statement regarding the provision of accommodation for primary school children in County Clare, and if she will give an up-to-date assessment in relation to Gaelscoil Mhicil Ciosog, Kilkee primary school, Kilmurry primary school and Tulla primary school.

I have also received notice from Senator Calnan of the following matter:

The refusal of the Minister for the Environment to provide funding for the Bandon bypass to alleviate severe traffic congestion in Bandon town.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Mooney, Hayes, Finneran, Manning and Daly as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected the matters raised by Senators Mooney and Hayes and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. I regret I had to rule the matter raised by Senator Calnan out of order on the grounds of lack of ministerial responsibility. The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
