Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 30 Apr 1997

Vol. 151 No. 6

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Taylor-Quinn that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, she proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to examine the necessity of providing a remedial teacher to Bodyke, Broadford, O'Callaghan's Mills, Orgonnolloe, Kilbane and Tuamgraney national schools as these schools are in an isolated rural area and are willing to combine their resources.

That covers the constituency.

However, it is Deputy Carey's country.

I have also received notice from Senator Mulcahy of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to provide a heart and lung transplant unit in Ireland in order that such a unit might save the lives of young people suffering from cystic fibrosis and to provide a much improved quality of life for all people suffering from cystic fibrosis.

I have also received notice from Senator Enright of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry to outline the reasons a farmer (details supplied) has been refused a suckler cow grant for 39 cows and a headage payment for 1996 and how he can justify the non-payment of these entitlements to the farmer in question in view of what can only be described as a very minor error on the farmer's part.

I regard the matters raised by Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Taylor-Quinn's and Senator Mulcahy's matters and they may be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Enright may give notice on another day of the matter he wishes to raise.
