Vol. 154 No. 19

Electoral (Amendment) Bill, 1998: Committee and Remaining Stages.

Sections 1 to 5, inclusive agreed to.
SECTION 6.
Question proposed: "That Section 6 stand part of the Bill."

I refer to section 6(a) line 30. I am sure that the Public Office Commission will put some procedure in place to notify donors of their responsibility under the legislation. Senator O'Toole asked for something simple but this legislation is anything but simple. Will the Minister have an explanatory leaflet prepared to inform Members and the public of the details of the Act?

It is the responsibility of the Public Offices Commission to produce the guidelines. However, I gave an indication that I would convey the wishes of both Houses to have guidelines issued on that matter and I will do so. What was the Senator's first point?

Will the commission also put in place a procedure to notify donors of their responsibilities under the Act?

Question put and agreed to.
Sections 7 to 18, inclusive, agreed to.
