I call the Leas-Chathaoirleach to move item 1, the motion that the report of the Joint Committee on Standing Orders be laid before the House.

The Joint Committee on Standing Orders report that in the case of The Trinity College, Dublin and The University of Dublin (Charters and Letters Patent Amendment) Bill, 1997, referred to them by Order of the Seanad of 5 March 1998, and by Order of the Dáil of 26 March 1998, they recommend that Standing Order No. 46 relative to Private Business ought to be dispensed with as there is a doubt as to the due construction of the Standing Order.
I move:
That the Report be laid before the Seanad.
I wish to put on record the extraordinary pretension of this institution which is taking up the time of the House. It is one university among a number which has grandiose notions about itself. The sooner it cops on that it is just another institution with no great significance the better.
I ask the Cathaoirleach to protect the House from the inadequacies of Senator Ryan, who obviously feels threatened by the distinguished record of Trinity College.
