Vol. 168 No. 24

Business of Seanad.

I have received notice from Senator Chambers that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform to outline the reasons for the reduction in Garda personnel at Newport Garda station, County Mayo and the reason the sergeant who retired some years ago has not been replaced.

I have also received notice from Senator Henry of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health and Children to outline the reason the Minister's list of chiropodists has been closed with the result that GMS patients, some with serious systemic conditions, have problems getting treatment.

I have also received notice from Senator O'Meara of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform to review the operation of community policing, which is causing serious concern in rural areas due to the low number of Garda personnel available.

I have also received notice from Senator Costello of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health and Children to outline the reason for the delay in a heroin addict (details supplied) being received into a detoxification treatment programme at the Mews Clinic, North Circular Road, Dublin, and the reason waiting lists for treatment of addicts are growing.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. The matters raised by Senators Chambers, Henry and O'Meara will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Costello may give notice on another day of the matter he wishes to raise.
