Treaty of Amsterdam: Motions.

I move:

That Seanad Éireann approve the exercise by the State of the option or discretion provided by Article 1.11 of the Treaty of Amsterdam to take part in the adoption of the following proposed measure:

a proposal for a Council Framework Decision on joint investigation teams,

a copy of which measure was laid before Seanad Éireann on 4th day of January, 2002.

I move:

That Seanad Éireann approves the exercise by the State of the option provided by Article 4 of the second Protocol to the Treaty of Amsterdam, to notify the Council that it wishes to take part in the provisions of the Schengen acquis specified in:

the proposed Council Decision concerning Ireland's request to take part in some of the provisions of the Schengen acquis;and approves the exercise by the State of the option provided by Article 4 of the fourth Protocol to the Treaty of Amsterdam, to notify the Council and the Commission that it wishes to accept the following measures:

Council Directive 2001/40/EC of 28th May, 2001, on the mutual recognition of decisions on the expulsion of third country nationals;

Council Directive 2001/51/EC of 28th June, 2001, supplementing the provisions of Article 26 of the Convention implementing the Schengen Agreement of 14th June, 1985;

Council Regulation (EC) No. 2424/2001 of 6th December, 2001, on the development of the second generation Schengen Information System (SIS II);

copies of which were laid before Seanad Éireann on 29th January, 2002.
