Seanad Éireann debate -
Thursday, 18 Apr 2002

Vol. 169 No. 19

Order of Business. - Business of Seanad.

On a point of order, I propose that the Order of Business be amended to enable this debate to continue until 2.15 p.m. The next item will only take about ten to 15 minutes.

Acting Chairman

According to the Order of Business, this debate must conclude at 2 p.m. at which time No. 3 will commence. We will have to stick to that schedule. I do not know whether I am in order, but perhaps the Acting Leader could decide to resume this debate on another sitting day or at the conclusion of today's business.

I support Senator Manning's proposal as the next item will only take a few minutes.

Acting Chairman

I am sorry, but we cannot do that.

Perhaps the Acting Leader could propose that the debate be extended to 2.15 p.m.

Acting Chairman

No, No. 3 will definitely start at 2 p.m. The only solution is to resume this debate at the conclusion of business. We are wasting time.

I propose that the debate resumes immediately after the next item so that the following item would not start until 2.30 p.m.

Acting Chairman

I ask the Acting Leader to propose extending the debate until 2.15 p.m.

I propose that the debate be extended until 2.15 p.m.

Acting Chairman

Is that agreed? Agreed.
