Treaty of Amsterdam: Referral to Joint Committee.

I move:

That the proposal that Seanad Éireann approve the following proposals:

that Seanad Éireann approves the exercise by the State of the option or discretion provided by Article 1.11 of the Treaty of Amsterdam to take part in the adoption of the following proposed measure:

a proposal for a Council Framework Decision on combating corruption in the private sector,

a copy of which proposed measure was laid before Seanad Éireann on 30th January, 2003;

that Seanad Éireann approves the exercise by the State of the option or discretion provided by Article 1.11 of the Treaty of Amsterdam to take part in the adoption of the following proposed measure:

a proposal for a Council Framework Decision on the execution in the European Union of orders freezing property or evidence,

a copy of which proposed measure was laid before Seanad Éireann on 30th January, 2003;

that Seanad Éireann approves the exercise by the State of the option or discretion provided by Article 1.11 of the Treaty of Amsterdam to take part in the adoption of the following proposed measure:

a proposal for a Council Decision determining which provisions of the 1995 Convention on simplified extradition procedure between the Member States of the European Union and of the 1996 Convention relating to extradition between the Member States of the European Union constitute developments of the Schengen acquis in accordance with the Agreement concerning the Republic of Iceland's and the Kingdom of Norway's association with the implementation, application and development of the Schengen acquis,

a copy of which proposed measure was laid before Seanad Éireann on 28th January, 2003;

be referred to the Joint Committee on Justice, Equality, Defence and Women's Rights, in accordance with paragraph (1) (Seanad) of the Orders of Reference of that Committee, which, not later than the 25th February, 2003, shall send a message to the Seanad in the manner prescribed in Standing Order 67, and Standing Order 69(2) shall accordingly apply."
