Vol. 187 No. 8

Business of Seanad.

I have received notice from Senator MacSharry that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health and Children to ensure existing cancer care services at Sligo General Hospital are maintained and improved to include a satellite centre for radiotherapy.

I have received notice from Senator Coffey of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Science to outline if she intends publishing the independent report carried out on Waterford Institute of Technology's application for university status and her views on its content and recommendations.

I have received notice from Senator Boyle of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government to confirm that recent changes in Government policy have made incineration a diminished waste disposal method.

I have received notice from Senator McCarthy of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government to furnish a report on the up-to-date progress of the much promised and long overdue sewerage scheme in Skibbereen, County Cork; and when he expects the work to be completed.

I have received notice from Senator Norris of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform to intervene in the case of a South African citizen, name supplied, who has applied for citizenship for himself, his wife and his daughter each of whom are being processed inexplicably on a different timescale.

I have received notice from Senator Keaveney of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Transport and the Marine to discuss, with his ministerial counterpart in the Assembly, a direct Dublin to Derry train service and to outline the impediments, if any, that currently exist which would hinder such a service from being realised.

I have received notice from Senator Kelly of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health and Children to outline the action she is taking to ensure resources are being allocated to the ambulance services given the revelation that due to EMT and advanced paramedic staffing shortages, an embargo on recruitment and changes in the admittance levels to hospitals, ambulance personnel are working long hours.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected the matters raised by Senators MacSharry, Coffey and Boyle and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators McCarthy, Norris, Keaveney and Kelly may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
