Vol. 188 No. 20

Business of Seanad.

I have received notice from Senator Michael McCarthy that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Social and Family Affairs to reinstate immediately the social welfare office in Dunmanway, County Cork, and to restore urgently the level of service provided at the office prior to its temporary closure in July 2007.

I have also received notice from Senator Alan Kelly of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources to outline if the Government is fully committed to providing the funding and work necessary to rehabilitate the Silvermines dumps, in particular the Gortmore area, which is deemed to pose a serious environmental and health hazard due to the exposure of elevated levels of lead and other toxic chemical residues.

I have also received notice from Senator Paudie Coffey of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources to outline the financial resources he proposes to allocate from this year's budget to facilitate the installation and commissioning of high speed broadband networks in Dunmore East and Tramore, County Waterford.

I have also received notice from Senator Cecilia Keaveney of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to outline any efforts currently being made to pursue the provision of a cross-Border or Border business park in north east Donegal, given the ongoing interest in this concept in the north west for many years.

I have also received notice from Senator John Paul Phelan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Science to outline the length of time that capital funding will continue to be unavailable to Good Counsel College in New Ross, County Wexford, due to the ongoing discussions regarding school amalgamations in the New Ross area.

I have also received notice from Senator Pearse Doherty of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Science to publish a complete list of all school projects in the building programme together with indicative times for completion.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senators McCarthy, Kelly and Coffey and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Keaveney, John Paul Phelan and Doherty may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
