Euro Area Loan Facility (Amendment) Bill 2013: Second Stage

Question proposed: "That the Bill be now read a Second Time."

I welcome the Minister of State at the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Deputy O'Dowd, to the House.

I thank the Seanad for agreeing to take all Stages of this Bill this afternoon. This is the third time the legislation on this issue has been adjusted by the Oireachtas. The purpose of the Bill is to give the undertaking that the Government must come back to the House if it is a question of the total amount of the loan to Greece being changed. However, if the conditions other than that change and if the Attorney General so advises, then it requires a resolution of the House to pass it. Consequently, I propose that this Bill be passed.

I propose the Bill be passed.

I second that. Fianna Fáil agrees with the Bill and, as the Minister of State noted, we are in agreement with the full thrust. Members are dealing with a lot of legislation in this area and I do not believe there is any need to rehash the various points. It will come back if there are any significant changes. Consequently, I second the proposal that the Bill be passed.

We are to go through the Stages and I thank Senators for their co-operation.

Question put and agreed to.

When is it proposed to take Committee Stage?
