Vol. 234 No. 9

Business of Seanad

I have received notice from Senator Rónán Mullen that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Skills to give a commitment to strict adherence to a timeline for the publication, scrutiny and enactment of the technological universities Bill in order that the legislation will be in place in advance of the recommencement of the academic year on 1 September 2015.

I have also received notice from Senator Lorraine Higgins of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Skills to outline whether she will agree to devising a short course to be taught to post-primary students on suicide awareness and prevention.

I have also received notice from Senator Martin Conway of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to outline the plans he has, if any, to provide funding for a drug called Fampyra for the treatment of people with multiple sclerosis under the long-term illness scheme or the drug repayment scheme.

I have also received notice from Senator Thomas Byrne of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht to explain the circumstances behind the appointment of Mr. John McNulty to the board of the Irish Museum of Modern Art.

I have also received notice from Senator Mark Daly of the following matter:

The need for the Taoiseach to discuss the reason he has not yet released documents prepared for his Department prior to the Seanad referendum in 2013 and his intentions in this regard.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected the matters raised by Senators Rónán Mullen, Lorraine Higgins, Martin Conway and Thomas Byrne and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Mark Daly may give notice on another day of the matter he wishes to raise.
