Vol. 236 No. 9

Business of Seanad

I have received notice from Senator Kathryn Reilly that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, she proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice and Equality to discuss SI 541 of 2014 and comment on recent revelations that the British spy agency, General Communications Headquarters, GCHQ, had directly tapped undersea communications cables between Ireland and Britain.

I have also received notice from Senator David Cullinane of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport to state if he is aware that the airline carrier Flybe is withdrawing from Waterford Airport, to outline the Government’s commitment to the regional airport and to detail all past and planned State funding for the airport, including funding to extend the runway to accommodate larger aircraft.

I have also received notice from Senator Colm Burke of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to clarify the current position on implementing the recommendation made in the Law Reform Commission's report of December 2011 entitled, Legal Aspects of Professional Home Care, and, in particular, if he would consider implementation of the report by way of legislation.

I have also received notice from Senator Mark Daly of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice and Equality to make a statement on reports in the media on the British Government tapping Irish communications networks and to outline what action the Government is taking to ensure the reported communications interception and phone tapping by GCHQ ceases immediately.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. I suggest Senators Kathryn Reilly and Mark Daly share time as their matters are on the same topic.
