I have received notice from Senator Jim Walsh that, on the motion for the Commencement of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:
The need for the Minister for Social Protection to make a statement on the recent ruling of the Coroner's Court on the death of a woman and her unborn daughter (details supplied), with particular reference to the finding that, as a matter of law, the removal or separation of the non-living foetus in the course of an autopsy was a birth and that, therefore, her death was registerable, thereby legally recognising the separate legal personality of the unborn child.
I regard the matter raised by the Senator as suitable for discussion and it will be taken now.
