Vol. 251 No. 12

Business of Seanad

I have received notice from Senator Trevor Ó Clochartaigh that, on the motion for the Commencement of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

Maidir leis an athbhreithniú ar acmhainneacht an chabhlaigh iascaigh atá idir lámha ag an Roinn Talmhaíochta, Bia agus Mara, an gá atá ann go dtabharfaidh an tAire soiléiriú maidir le cén uair a fhoilseofar na haighneachtaí atá tagtha isteach ar shuíomh idirlín na Roinne agus céard é an t-amscála le haghaidh cinnidh ón Aire i ndáil leis an athbhreithniú.

I have also received notice from Senator Aodhán Ó Ríordáin of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government to consider establishing a dedicated investigative fire safety unit to investigate, identify and take remedial action to ensure there is adequate fire safety in self-certified housing and apartment developments and that there are no more unidentified defective developments.

I have also received notice from Senator James Reilly of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport to outline how he can assist in ensuring the sports lands at Lusk, County Dublin, for the Lusk 2020 sports hub are ceded to Fingal County Council; to outline how his Department can assist with the development of this key sports amenity landbank; and if he will consider funding sports facilities there under the Lusk 2020 multi-use sports plan.

I have also received notice from Senator Gerard Craughwell of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport to outline the projects that will be funded from the €3.6 billion earmarked for public transport in the Exchequer capital transport envelope 2016-21; and to outline how much of this will be used to enhance public transport outside Dublin, specifically in Cork city and county.

I have also received notice from Senator Tim Lombard of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport to develop a strategy for increased funding, recognition and participation for women's sport.

I have also received notice from Senator Maria Byrne of the following matter:

The need for the Minister of Education and Skills to consider providing an ASD unit for every school.

I have also received notice from Senator Victor Boyhan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine to confirm when all outstanding 2016 GLAS 1 and GLAS 2 payments will be made to farmers; and to provide assurance that this matter is receiving urgent attention.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Ó Clochartaigh, Ó Ríordáin, Reilly, Craughwell, Lombard and Boyhan as suitable for discussion. I have selected Senators Ó Clochartaigh's, Ó Ríordáin's, Reilly's and Craughwell's matters, and they will be taken now.

I regret I have had to rule out of order the matter raised by Senator Byrne on the grounds that it is a repeat of a similar Commencement matter raised on 10 May 2017 and anticipates the debate on Second Stage of the Autism Spectrum Disorder Bill 2017, which takes place in the Seanad this Wednesday.

Senators Lombard and Boyhan may give notice on another day of the matters that they wish to raise.
