Vol. 269 No. 5

Migration of Participating Securities Bill 2019: Committee and Remaining Stages

Sections 1 to 7, inclusive, agreed to.
SECTION 8
Question proposed: "That section 8 stand part of the Bill."

The Minister of State clarified what will be needed for a quorum. We can take it then that he is acknowledging they will have to be there physically for the quorum.

Question put and agreed to.
Sections 9 to 13, inclusive, agreed to.
SECTION 14
Question proposed: "That section 14 stand part of the Bill."

This can be annulled by a resolution of either House within 21 days. If the Seanad annuls it, does the resolution then have to go to the Dáil? What is the protocol? Is a simple majority required in either House?

It is either House and by a simple majority vote.

I did not hear the Minister of State. He might just give some clarification on those two questions, including a decision of the Seanad going back to the Dáil.

Either House can annul the legislation.

If it is annulled by the Seanad, it does not then have to go back to the Dáil. It is annulled and that is it.

That is correct.

Question put and agreed to.
Sections 15 to 17, inclusive, agreed to.
Title agreed to.
Bill reported without amendment, received for final consideration and passed.

I thank the Minister of State and the Members for their co-operation and I wish everybody a happy Christmas. When is it proposed to sit again?

The Seanad adjourned at 4.35 p.m. until 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday, 21 January 2020.
