Gnó an tSeanaid - Business of Seanad

I welcome my friend and colleague, the Minister of State, Deputy Colm Brophy, to the House.

I have received notice from Senator Fiona O'Loughlin that, on the motion for the Commencement of the House today, she proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Defence to make a statement on the report of the Commission on the Defence Forces

I have also received notice from Senator Victor Boyhan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Transport to make a statement on the cancellation of major national road projects.

I have also received notice from Senator Mary Seery Kearney of the following matter:

I have also received notice from Senator Robbie Gallagher of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to provide an update on the opening of Bóthar Oirialla group home, Carrickmacross, County Monaghan.

I have also received notice from Senator Maria Byrne of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to make a statement on progress in the roll-out of the programme on women’s health announced in budget 2022.

I have also received notice from Senator Erin McGreehan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications to make a statement on measures to reduce fuel poverty such as utilising surplus renewable energy on the grid.

I have also received notice from Senator Micheál Carrigy of the following matter:

I have also received notice from Senator Malcolm Byrne of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media to make a statement on the introduction of a basic income scheme for artists.

I have also received notice from Senator Barry Ward of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage to ensure the establishment of municipal and-or metropolitan districts in all local authority areas.

I have also received notice from Senator Seán Kyne of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage to make a statement on fire services infrastructure in Galway city.

I have also received notice from Senator Lynn Boylan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage to provide an update on planning regulations to support the installation of solar panels on homes, schools and businesses.

I have also received notice from Senator Martin Conway of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to provide an update on resourcing at the adult metabolic service in the Mater hospital and resourcing for response testing to new innovative therapies for phenylketonuria, PKU, treatment.

Of the matters raised by the Senators suitable for discussion, the Cathaoirleach has selected Senators O’Loughlin, Boyhan, Seery Kearney and Gallagher and they will be taken now. The Cathaoirleach regrets that he had to rule out of order the matter raised by Senator Boylan on the ground that it anticipates the Committee Stage debate of the Planning and Development (Solar Panels for Public Buildings, Schools, Homes and Other Premises) (Amendment) Bill 2021, which is scheduled to take place in the Seanad tomorrow, Wednesday, 16 February 2022. The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
