Vol. 284 No. 1

Gnó an tSeanaid - Business of Seanad

I have received notice from Senator Mark Wall that, on the motion for the Commencement of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage to provide an update on the review of the housing adaptation and housing aid grants available through each local authority.

I have also received notice from Senator Sharon Keogan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Social Protection to make a statement on increasing the fuel allowance to combat rising energy costs.

I have also received notice from Senator Aisling Dolan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to provide an update on the status of the new school building for Scoil an Chroí Naofa, Ballinasloe, and the site acquisition for St. Teresa’s Special School, Ballinasloe, County Galway.

I have also received notice from Senator Malcolm Byrne of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science to make a statement on the standardisation of researchers’ pension entitlements in higher education.

I have also received notice from Senator Barry Ward of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform to restore fee rates paid under the criminal legal aid scheme.

I have also received notice from Senator Jerry Buttimer of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to make a statement on the timeline for the changes to blood donation eligibility rules and the engagement between the Department of Health and the Irish Blood Transfusion Service on this matter.

I have also received notice from Senator Maria Byrne of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine to make a statement on engagement with Irish food producers whose supply chains have been affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

I have also received notice from Senator Róisín Garvey of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage to outline what measures he intends to take to improve transparency, public participation and accountability in local authorities.

I have also received notice from Senator Victor Boyhan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine to make a statement on his plans to encourage and support farmers to grow protein crops, multispecies sward and red clover.

I have also received notice from Senator Garret Ahearn of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to make a statement on the shortage of acute mental health beds in County Tipperary since the closure of St. Michael's Unit, Clonmel, County Tipperary.

I have also received notice from Senator Tim Lombard of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to make a statement on plans to introduce mandatory teacher training on dyslexia.

I have also received notice from Senator Martin Conway of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Transport to make a statement on access to public transport for the Ukrainian community living in rural Ireland and the exchange of Ukrainian driver licences for Irish licences.

I have also received notice from Senator Lynn Boylan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister of State with responsibility for heritage and electoral reform to make a statement on plans for bogs in the mid-Shannon area and how they correlate with the national peatland strategy.

Of the matters raised by the Senators suitable for discussion, I have selected Senators Wall, Keogan, Dolan and Malcolm Byrne and they will be taken now. I regret that I had to rule out of order the following matters: the matter raised by Senator Maria Byrne on the ground it anticipates the statements regarding impacts on the farming sector arising from the circumstances in Ukraine that are scheduled to take place in the Seanad later today; the matter raised by Senator Boyhan on the ground it is a repeat of a Commencement matter raised on 24 March; and the matter raised by Senator Conway on the ground it anticipates the debate on the Fine Gael Private Members' motion regarding support to Ukraine that is scheduled to take place in the Seanad tomorrow. The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
