SELECT COMMITTEE ON AGRICULTURE, FOOD AND THE MARINE debate -
Thursday, 24 Jun 1999

Vol. 2 No. 3

Report of Select Committee.

I propose the following draft report:

The Select Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine has considered the Horse and Greyhound Racing (Betting Charges and Levies) Bill, 1999 and has made amendments thereto.

Report agreed to.

Ordered to report to the Dáil accordingly.

The Select Committee will adjourn until 4 p.m. on Wednesday next to deal with the Minerals Development Bill, 1999.

I thank members who contributed to this debate on Second and Committee Stages. We are all trying to help the development of a growing industry which is important throughout the country. I pay tribute to the staff of the Department of Agriculture and Food and the draftsman's office who were working on this until 3 o'clock this morning. The way in which amendments are put down does not allow them much time and they had to be ready for 10 o'clock this morning. We appreciate the work put into the preparation of this legislation.

I wish to be associated with those remarks. This was a good debate and I compliment the Minister for taking certain matters into account.

I also wish to be associated with the Minister's remarks. He is a very broad-minded man as regards racing.

I thank the Minister's officials and the spokespersons.

The Select Committee adjourned at 12.10 p.m.
