SECTION 39.

Amendment No. 30 is an alternative to amendment No. 29b and both may be taken together.

I move amendment No. 29b:

In page 22, subsection (2), line 14, after "1992,", to insert "An Bord Iascaigh Mhara within the meaning of the Sea Fisheries Act, 1952, Údarás na Gaeltachta within the meaning of the Údarás na Gaeltachta Act, 1979, the Marine Institute within the meaning of the Marine Institute Act, 1991,".

This amendment deals with the need for the appeals board to keep itself informed of the policies and objectives of public authorities whose functions have a bearing on the matters which the board is considering. The definition of "public authority" includes the Environmental Protection Agency, the Central Fisheries Board or a regional fisheries board. I propose that it be extended to include BIM, Údarás na Gaeltachta and the Marine Institute. This meets the objective of amendment No. 30 in the name of Deputy Michael Smith.
