SELECT COMMITTEE ON ENVIRONMENT AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT debate -
Tuesday, 27 Apr 2004

Business of Select Committee.

I welcome the Minister of State at the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, Deputy Gallagher, and his officials to this meeting. It has been suggested that we sit until 7 p.m. and take a sos of 30 minutes when the first vote is called on the Order of Business in the Dáil.

Until when is it proposed that we sit?

Until 7 p.m.

I cannot stay until 7 p.m. as I have to attend a parliamentary party meeting at 5.30 p.m.

I also have a difficulty being here after 5 p.m.

The Bill must be dealt with this week.

It will focus our minds on it if we have to finish at 5 p.m. or 5.30 p.m.

We were focused on it at the recent meetings.

Time is not on our side. If Members cannot be here——

I cannot be here as I have to attend a parliamentary meeting at which I am presenting something.

Will we break for the Order of Business?

It is proposed that we take a break as soon as the first vote is called on the Order of Business.

Are we in public session?

Yes. Does the Deputy have a proposal?

No. If Deputy Allen must finish by 5.30 p.m, we will have to co-operate with him.

We will suspend the sitting as soon as the first vote is called on the Order of Business and we will resume tomorrow at 4.30 p.m. Is that agreed?

Tomorrow?

Yes. Is that agreed? Agreed. We will resume discussion on section 11.
