SECTION 6.

I move amendment No. 2:

In page 6, subsection (1)(a), line 7, after "registered" to insert "by completing an application paper in the form directed by the Minister".

Section 6 implements the provisions of Council Directive 93/09 EEC in relation to the registration, as European electors, of nationals of other members states ordinarily resident in the State. In accordance with the Directive, subsection (1)(a) provides that a resident EU citizen must apply for registration. The purpose of this amendment is to amend subsection (1)(a) and to enable the Minister to direct a form of application to be made by a resident EU citizen seeking registration as a European elector. This is desirable so that standard information will be sought throughout the country. The amendment should promote uniformity in the registration of EU citizens.
