Will the Minister give a short explanation of section 56? It appears to allow Revenue records to be produced from electronic printouts, etc. Is that right?
That is correct. It is a new section which enables the Revenue Commissioners to scan and store, electronically or otherwise, images of existing and future VRT documentation. The section provides that copies of VRT records that have been reproduced in legible form from a computer or other storage medium will be admissible as evidence.
It does not, on the face of it, confine itself to VRT.
