SELECT COMMITTEE ON FINANCE AND THE PUBLIC SERVICE debate -
Wednesday, 22 Jan 2003

Vol. 1 No. 4

Business of Select Committee.

It is proposed to take Committee Stage of the Finance Bill 2002 on 25, 26 and 27 February as it is scheduled for Report Stage on 4 and 5 March. Is that agreed?

When is it proposed to publish it?

I will forward the details to the Deputy. I have a standard in relation to the matter - we will publish on the Thursday or Tuesday.

Is it a few weeks away?

Perhaps the Minister could have someone alert me in order that I can be present.

Two Bills remain outstanding which have been referred to the committee, namely, the Houses of the Oireachtas Commission Bill 2002 and the Central Bank and Financial Services Authority of Ireland Bill 2002. It is proposed to commence Committee Stage of the latter on the week commencing 3 February. We do not know how many sessions it will take.

It will certainly take more than one session.

We have meetings and other business that week, but we will commence it then.

My office will be in touch with the committee about the Consolidation Bill. Is the committee dealing with that or will it be dealt with by another committee?

There is a separate committee to deal with the Consolidation Bill.

For the Consolidation Bill, will a special committee sit rather than this one?

There is a separate Consolidation Bill committee.

It will not take long, but it is important that it is passed before the Finance Bill goes through.

We will commence our deliberations on the Central Bank and Financial Services Authority of Ireland Bill in the week commencing 3 February. It may take a few sessions, but we will take it from there.

The select committee adjourned at 6.30 p.m. sine die.
