Select Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government debate -
Wednesday, 25 Oct 2017

Message to Dáil

In accordance with Standing Order 90 the following message will be sent to the Dáil:

The Select Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government has completed its consideration of the Water Services Bill 2017 and has made amendments thereto.

I thank the Minister and his officials-----

Do we not vote on the Bill as amended?

Do we not get to vote on the Bill, as amended, proceeding to Report Stage?

It is not necessary to do that.

Can we do it if members request it?

Does the Deputy want to note opposition to the Bill as amended?

I would like to know if it is permissible for a member to call a vote at this point on the Bill, as amended.

We will suspend for five minutes to seek clarification on the matter.

Sitting suspended at 7.16 p.m. and resumed at 7.23 p.m.

To clarify, the legislation has been examined and agreed section by section and there is no provision for voting on the Bill as a whole.

I thank the Minister and his officials for attending today. Finally, I thank staff members Trish, Padraig and Fiona for the enormous amount of preparatory work they did in advance of the meeting, which helped a great deal with the flow of proceedings.

The select committee adjourned at 7.25 p.m. until 9 a.m. on Wednesday, 15 November 2017.
