I move amendment No. 270:
In page 30, between lines 12 and 13, to insert the following subsection:
"(1) Clause VI of the Charter of the National University of Ireland is hereby amended by the deletion of 'the General Board of Studies,'.".
I propose amendments Nos. 270 and 276 at the request of the NUI. They will ensure that all reference to the general board of studies in the charter of the NUI is deleted. The general board of studies is no longer in operation and reference to it in legislation is not necessary.
Deputy Keogh's amendment No. 271, the deletion of subclause (5) (1) (b) of clause X of the charter of the NUI. The result of the amendment would be that the Government would no longer have nominees on the senate of the NUI. There have always been Government nominees and the senate has expressed no wish that this tradition be changed.
