Special Committee Defence Bill, 1951 debate -
Tuesday, 8 Apr 1952

SECTION 129.

I move amendment No. 172:—

In line 33 to delete " penal servitude " and substitute " imprisonment ".

This section relates to a person who causes or conspires with another to cause a mutiny, endeavours to persuade any person to join a mutiny, does not use his utmost endeavours to suppress a mutiny, or, being aware of an actual or intended mutiny, does not inform his superior officer. In view of the opinions of the Committee, I do not want to press the amendment unless there is agreement with me that the penalty of penal servitude should be reduced to imprisonment.

I should have to resist that, too.

Amendment, by leave, withdrawn.
Section 129 agreed to.
