Special Committee Factories Bill, 1954 debate -
Thursday, 3 Feb 1955

SECTION 70.

I move amendment No. 51:—

In sub-section (1), line 53, to delete " bodily ".

This is to delete the word " bodily " in reference to possible risk of injuries. There may well be processes and also types of plant or equipment used which may give rise to risk of injuries other than those of a bodily nature—a mental nature. I suggest that the limiting word be deleted so as to leave it that it is a cause of risk or injury. It still is a question for the Minister, in consultation with the Minister for Health, to make regulations ; so they will have due regard to the actual significance of the word " injury ".

What is the definition of " injury "?

If you look at the definition, you will see that Section 2 describes " bodily injury " as including injury to health, so it could hardly be more comprehensive. Bodily injury will include any injury to health.

Very well.

Amendment, by leave, withdrawn.
Section 70 agreed to.
Section 71 agreed to.
