Special Committee on the Roads Bill, 1991 debate -
Wednesday, 29 Jul 1992

SECTION 29.

I move amendment No. 112:

In page 26, subsection (2), lines 29 to 32, to delete paragraph (a) and substitute the following:

"(2) (a) The Chief Executive shall report directly to the Authority, carry on and manage and control generally the administration and business of the Authority and perform such other functions as the Authority may determine from time to time.".

This amendment was suggested by the National Roads Authority. It spells out clearly that the chief executive will report directly to the Authority and to no other person or body thus eliminating any doubt in this regard.

Is this after Mr. Hynes' experience?

Amendment agreed to.

I move amendment No. 113:

In page 26, subsection (3), line 35, after "but" to insert ", save where he is a member of the Authority,".

This amendment makes it clear that if, and only if, the chief executive is a member of the Authority he would be entitled to vote at any meeting of the Authority or any committee or consultative group appointed by the Authority.

Amendment agreed to.
Section 29, as amended, agreed to.
