Special Committee Wildlife Bill, 1975 debate -
Tuesday, 15 Jun 1976

Procedure

Business of Committee.

Should we at this stage discuss when we will be sitting again?

Cavan): I think we fixed that the last day. Today we are sitting until 6 o’clock.

We had actually fixed the date?

Sorry, I thought it was today you were talking about.

Have we discussed the next day's sitting on this?

Could we have another sitting this week?

The Misuse of Drugs Bill is on tomorrow.

Taking the week that is in it, I think Deputies might have certain difficulties in rearranging themselves after the absence for a while.

I mean subject to the Committee's progress. I do not want to be unreasonable. This week does not suit, is that right?

I do not mind when.

I was thinking in terms of Deputies Brendan Daly and Michael Kitt. Their position is that for the last ten days they may have neglected certain duties that would ordinarily fall on them and they might not be free.

Well then, we will say this day week. Would you agree that we have at least two days?

There is an EEC Committee meeting for 4.30 on the 22nd.

We have already abandoned one EEC Committee meeting.

We have one on Thursday anyway.

We should have had one today, which was scrapped.

The EEC meeting is for 4.30 on the 22nd.

Is it possible to have it on Wednesday morning? We would be in the House.

What about Wednesday morning?

There is a Fianna Fáil Party meeting.

Ours is tomorrow.

What about Wednesday afternoon next week?

There is a drugs meeting. We will have to have a sitting next week.

The obligation should not be on us to ascertain and streamline the dates on which different committees meet. We should have a schedule here in respect of these things.

Next Tuesday is quite acceptable to me.

Perhaps the EEC meeting could be put back.

That is, Tuesday, 22nd, from 3.45 to 6 p.m.

Would the clerk try to liaise with Mr. Kilroy of the EEC Committee to see if subcommittee meetings, which we have had to postpone, could be fitted in next Thursday or some other day?

Yes. May we start the business now? We are dealing with section 7.
