Standing Joint Committee on Consolidation Bills debate -
Thursday, 23 Oct 1997

SECTION 32.

Question proposed: "That section 32 stand part of the Bill."

I did not get an opportunity to speak on Second Stage but I believe eyebrows were raised in the bloodstock industry over remarks made by Deputy Ardagh about income derived from stallion fees. Deputy Ferris was quick to stifle debate in that regard. I hope the Minister has no proposals to amend that provision.

It would be more appropriate to discuss that matter in December when the Finance Bill is published.

Both Deputy Ferris and the Minister of State of the Department of Agriculture and Food, Deputy Davern, raised this matter with me after hearing Deputy Ardagh's speech. I told my officials to write to the two Deputies telling them that I have no plans to amend that provision. I will also send a letter to Deputy Haughey.

Did anyone do a scan to identify references to specific currencies, including the Irish pound and sterling, to see what change will be necessary from 1 January 1999?

There is a procedure where an official will give details of what is happening. I understand that matter is being considered at present by the Revenue Commissioners.

Question put and agreed to.
Sections 33 to 36, inclusive, agreed to.
