251 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if a survey of staff to determine interest in participating in the decentralisation programme has been undertaken in his Department; when it will be completed; and if the results will be published or otherwise made available to Deputies. A preliminary survey of staff preferences regarding decentralisation has been conducted to establish the initial levels of interest across the Department in relocating to Cavan or to any of the new locations under the decentralisationprogramme.

That was very much an initial information-gathering exercise. It was stressed to staff that it was a preliminary non-binding survey and that any preferences at this stage were non-binding.

As of 26 January 2004, 424 staff had responded as follows:
