Bernard Allen

Question:

262 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will investigate the case of a person (details supplied) in County Cork who is caring for their spouse on a 24-hour basis and receiving no benefits for such care despite the fact that the person is in receipt of an old age pension; if he will investigate the situation with a view to getting the person reassessed and offer more support; and the reason despite the fact that this person was assessed for rehabilitation when their stroke first occurred five years ago, no offer of rehabilitation has been given since. As the Deputy will be aware, the provision of health services in the Cork area is, in the first instance, the responsibility of the Southern Health Board. My Department has, therefore, asked the chief executive of the board to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and reply direct to him as a matter of urgency.
