294 Mr. Cuffe asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of people for 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 who have been detained under subsections (details supplied) of section 9 of the 1996 Refugee Act (as amended). [2371/04]
View answerThe statistical information required to respond to this question is not readily available. To acquire these figures within the timeframe allowed would require the expenditure of a disproportionate amount of resources. It should be noted that in accordance with the requirements of this section of the Refugee Act 1996 as amended any persons so detained are brought before a judge of the District Court, who considers the basis for the detention and following such consideration, directs that the person concerned should be released or detained as appropriate.
