Question:

240 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health and Children how a service will be provided to the catchment area previously served by the chest and respiratory unit at Peamount Hospital, Newcastle, County Dublin; if his attention has been drawn to the legitimate concerns of patients regarding the availability of a service to meet their condition in the future in view of the seriously competing demands within the general hospital services throughout the greater Dublin area and the country and the likelihood, after the proposed closure of the facility, that such patients will be left without a service; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 239 and 240 together.

Responsibility for the provision of services at the hospital rests with the Eastern Regional Health Authority. My Department has asked its CEO to examine the matters raised and to reply to the Deputy directly.

Questions Nos. 241 and 242 answered with Question No. 145.
