Questions (110)

Richard Bruton

Question:

111 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science his policy on making work sharing arrangements available to teachers on temporary contracts; and the way in which this policy is consistent with the approach adopted by Government that atypical workers should have equal access to entitlements which are made available to traditional full-time workers as part of a policy of encouraging flexibility in the work force and equality of workers rights. The terms and conditions of service of teachers generally are matters for consideration by the teachers' conciliation council. Any proposal on behalf of temporary teachers for work sharing arrangements would be considered by the council within the context of the provisions of the Protection of Employees (Fixed Term Work) Act and the requirement to deliver a quality based education service to all students.
