471 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the difficulties experienced by aspiring job applicants, especially in the education and social care areas, in obtaining character clearance certificates at local Garda Síochána level; and the measures he proposes to introduce to resolve this most unsatisfactory situation. I propose to take Questions Nos. 471 and 505 together.

The inter-agency working group established to examine the issue of expanding the services of the Garda central vetting unit, including to the kinds of groups identified by the Deputies, has recently submitted its report. This report and recommendations will be given full and careful consideration with a view to early implementation, as appropriate.
