The pier has been recognised as a strategic Gaeltacht pier under my Department's programme for development that is projected to operate for the period of the National Development Plan 2000-06. Funding has already been provided under the programme for improvement works carried out at Baile na nGall pier. My Department is in ongoing discussions with Kerry County Council with regard to further development of strategic piers in the Kerry Gaeltacht. No decision has as yet been made with regard to the development of Brandon Bay pier.
