200 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason a person (details supplied) was left on a trolley in the accident and emergency department for a prolonged period; if his attention has been drawn to the way in which such a wait is typical for many patients attending the Mater; and the steps he is taking to ensure there is adequate bed capacity in the Mater Hospital. Responsibility for the provision of services to residents of Counties Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow rests with the Eastern Regional Health Authority, and services at the Mater Hospital are provided under an arrangement with the authority. My Department has, therefore, asked the regional chief executive of the authority to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and to reply to her directly.
