166 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the extent to which crime levels by category as reported have increased or decreased throughout County Kildare in the past five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12915/04]
View answerI am informed by the Garda authorities that statistics are not available in the county format requested by the Deputy. They have, however, furnished the headline crime statistics for the years 2000 to 2003 for the Garda division of Carlow-Kildare. Comparable statistics for the previous years are unavailable and I am informed that the compilation of such information would involve a disproportionate amount of Garda time and resources which could not be justified in the circumstances. It should be noted that the statistics furnished for 2003 are provisional and are, therefore, subject to change.
