47 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the detailed estimated costs of, and numbers of gardaí involved in policing the May Day celebrations and the proposed visit to Ireland by United States President George W. View answerI am informed by the Garda authorities that the estimated number of gardaí involved in policing the May Day celebrations was 5,000 but that estimates of the associated costs are not yet available. I am further informed that in relation to the proposed visit of President George W. Bush to Ireland, policing plans have not yet been finalised. Accordingly, it is not yet possible to estimate the number of gardaí and associated costs involved.
