View answerThe child named by the Deputy has not yet entered mainstream school. He has been previously assessed by a health board psychologist, who recommended that he be referred to a specialist multi-disciplinary service. A psychologist from NEPS has contacted the child's mother and given advice on how to access a review assessment from the health board services. The mother was also advised on the availability of special provision in the area, how to apply to a mainstream school and what reports needed to be supplied to the school principal. I understand that the school has accepted the child for entry in September next on the basis of these reports and has applied to my Department for additional resources. This application is currently under consideration. When the child has started school the NEPS area psychologist will be available to meet the child to assess his needs and to consult with his teachers.
