194 Mr. P. McGrath asked the Minister for Education and Science the schools in County Westmeath in which works are yet to be undertaken to eliminate the presence of radon gas; and the timeframe for these works. [16374/04]
View answerIn the order of 500 schools have not yet been tested for radon. Arrangements for the testing of these schools are currently in hand. This includes ten schools in County Westmeath. The tests are being carried out by the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland on behalf of my Department. It is expected that the results will be available in September and remediation, if required, will be carried out as soon as possible thereafter.
